Located in the rolling hills of the Peak District, The Hanging Gate is a quaint pub and restaurant
which specialises in
exquisitely unique home cooked food, with each dish hand crafted with Head Chef Ernst's twist and glamour.  Offering a wide range of  exceptionally kept real ales as well as a full range of specially selected wines.

THE TEAM

Ernst van Zyl, Chef Patron, moved over from his native South Africa 20 years ago and has since worked at some the best restaurants and hotels in the country including Radisson Manchester Airport, Stanneylands, Hilton Manchester, London, Belfast, Etrop Grange, plus stages @ The Fat Duck, Frantzen, Noma, Le Manior & Maaemo. He is also the proud previous Head Chef / Patron of The Lord Clyde, where he gained 3AA Rosettes.

Elizabeth Kellett has also been in catering for over 20 years, starting and growing up in Sutton before moving all over. Liz's impressive CV includes OP's manager of big hotels, managing 17 ski chalets in France, running 38 villas for a 5* hotel in Cornwall and restaurant manager for an up-market establishment in Chesire. Liz is now very happy to be back in Sutton at The Hanging Gate.

Ernst & Liz also run private catering @ youR house

and pop-up events all over the country.

We offer delicious light bites lunch menu Tuesday to Saturday 12pm-2pm. Our famed five and seven course tasting menus are served on Saturday evenings. Tuesday evening is home to #SANDANDSEA during the summer. Followed by our famed #nomenutuesday in the autumn & winter, where we feed you five courses and you pay what you think! Thursday nights are STEAK NIGHT. And on Sunday sample the ultimate traditional home cooked Sunday lunch.
